Sure enough, the Illini ran a little, the driving lanes opened up, and they won by 20. They also played much better D and made some open jumpers. Savvy viewers will have noted that the worst stretch in the game came with about 3:00 in the first half, after Illinois stretched the lead to 10 (by running a fastbreak) and Coach promptly took the air out. Purdue then cut the lead to 4. Also, Mike Davis had 14 points. Imagine how many he would've had if anyone ever threw him the ball in the post when a 6-3 guy was trying to guard him...
