Media Bumps for Team America
June 27, 2009Every few years, U.S. Soccer raises its profile above the ocassional blip status. Usually that has coincided with the World Cup. This time around, it’s the Confederations Cup. After the horrific start to the tournament, Team America has turned the corner with two excellent games. The last performance, the 2-0 win over Spain (the #1 team in the world and unbeaten in 35 games) was the top sports story of the day on Wednesday.
So here at Beemsville, we thought we’d do our part and feed that media monster:

Here’s Jozy Altidore on ESPN’s Pardon the Interruption:
Here’s the postgame reactions from the guys…
Here are some comments from MLS players and coaches:
How big was this win? Well, check out this Arab commentator’s reaction to Clint Dempsey’s goal… He’s yelling “Allahu Akbar”, which means essentially means Allah rules!, and is the beginning of nearly all Islamic prayers in Arabic:
Stephen Colbert had a funny bit about the game where he yells GOOOOOAAALLL!!!, but that youtube is no longer available. Even Soccer-hater Jim Rome of ESPN had to talk about the win.
And why not? There isn’t a bigger game tomorrow than the Confed Cup final against Brazil. Tune it at 1:00 CST on ESPN. Normally, I would be storming one of the local sports bars with a handful of fellow fans for a game like this; ironically, I will probably have to watch this game on delay since tomorrow is Moving Day.
