WWC Scratch

August 5, 2009

Sadly, Beemsville is a late scratch from Wizard World Chicago this year.  It’s the first time I’ve missed the con in five years.  This year was going to be purely consumer and spectator mode anyway as I have no projects and no real plans in the comics realm.  Crap.  Now I’m depressed.

Anyway, the combination of a family commitment, expenses with the house move, and some pending travel plans all combined to make it a no- go.  I’ll still be reading reports from the Con to see how it unfolds.  It’s only two weeks after San Diego and things are tight all over; hopefully WWC isn’t too diminished.   So I don’t get to go to WWC, one of my favorite weekends of the year, yet ironically it looks like I’ll be attending the annual Farm Progress Show next month.  Life is strange sometimes.

Maybe next year we can take the kids.  For now how about a link to last year’s photos.  Maybe that will cheer me up…

Wizard World Chicago 08 Photos

June 30, 2008

We had big fun at the Con, as usual. Highlights included the Warren Ellis talk, Max Brooks Zombie Panel, mad costumes (see photos), and talking to the comic book folk. Also enjoyed the Batman: Gotham Knight premiere.

Shouts to Ronin Studios, Ape Entertainment, and the Wizard World volunteers.

And now, without further adieu, photos…

See You at the Con

June 26, 2008

Final preparations underway for the annual trek to Wizard World Chicago. We have our arrangements pretty much complete and have deposited the kids at the Grandma Bank.

I’ve spectacularly failed in my proposed work prep for this event. No excuse really — just been watching too much soccer. I will still have remaining copies of Vault of Cthulhu in hand as a work sample to hand out to any editors I can get to look me in the eye. I would also like to deliver a copy to Guest-of-Honor Warren Ellis (just for the hell of it), but that will depend on how outrageous his lines are.

A few events I’m looking forward to:

  • Warren Ellis, a writer worth listening to
  • Artist Alley
  • Kirkman, Bendis, and Zenoscope panels
  • Barbarian Battles
  • Batman Gotham Knight Premiere Read the rest of this entry ?

Con Plan

June 10, 2008

Wizard World Chicago is just over two weeks away, so it’s time to get serious about the preparations.  If I were really on top of things, the prep would be mostly done by now. But I’m not, so…

The plan:

  1. Secure tickets and lodgings
  2. Finish one fill-in script for mid-tier big publisher book (ideally this would be three separate scripts, but I do have a day job, dammit)
  3. Draft a new series proposal
  4. Update the creative CV
  5. Get in the correct, aggressive frame of mind
  6. Do some field research
